We recently came across Tamworth based artist Gab Collins after our friend Carley McLaren, the Director of Walcha Gallery of Art, sent us the artists latest works now showing at WGoA. Originally hailing from Sydney, Gab has firmly entrenched herself in life in northern New South Wales, and it seems her work is all the better for it.
Of course, hailing from country New South Wales ourselves, we were drawn to the series of Plein Air urban landscape paintings, not only for their sublime colour palette and rich textural variations, but also for the feelings of which they evoke.
Working quickly in an uncomfortable environment, Plein Air encourages spontaneity and total immersion within the surrounds to really push the creative boundaries…something we could all benefit from in our creative pursuits perhaps?
At the cross roads of Thunderbolts Way, with national parks filled with walking tracks and water falls to explore, you may want to consider staying for a night or two in Walcha – just ask Carley to book you into her Walcha Guesthouse for the best bed in town. You can linger over breakfast or grab a quick bite at Graze Cafe next door for the best coffee north of the Moonbi ranges. Tell Edwina that Est sent you for that extra wide country smile!
